Good Cambridge Pubs’ intention was to secure and operate five city pubs, all themed differently but built around the same core principles of quality and value for money.
Great food served differently
The first was The Fleur Bar & Bistro, Cambridge. Previously a student pub and then a late-night party venue, the previous business had closed and the building had fallen into disrepair. Good Cambridge Pubs negotiated a long lease and, over the course of a three weeks, completely refurbished the interior to create The Fleur Bar & Bistro.
The business operated successfully for two and half years. Good Cambridge Pubs was in discussions on nearby venues The Fort St George and The Vine when the market worsened; together with the smoking ban, the downturn’s effects took their toll on The Fleur Bar & Bistro.
2009 saw the company acquire the freehold of the premises from the brewery and successfully lease out the operation. In the meantime, Good Cambridge Pubs is working with local architects on plans to utilise the site for a development of studio and one-bedroom apartments aimed predominantly at the student market.
