Chard Robinson Developments has changed the face of student accommodation in Cambridge with the delivery of The Newton, on Humberstone Road.

Set close to the River Cam in the heart of the world-famous University City, The Newton is fast being called one of the area’s most attractive property investment propositions in recent times, with all 23 contemporary studio and one-bedroom apartments selling quickly off-plan.

N
ow complete, and with a successful launch event held in May, the development sets a new precedent for standards in student accommodation; with Midsummer Common and the University boathouses on the doorstep, The Newton blends the best of Cambridge’s past, present and future; externally, the Victorian building has been painstakingly recreated, with the façade rebuilt to integrate original sandstone pillars and brickwork; the property has also been designed to complement the existing Victorian architecture of the historic De Freville neighbourhood that wraps around it.

Step inside The Newton and the building reveals sleek, contemporary interiors that come to life thanks to sophisticated home automation technology. Each one of the apartments has been carefully and intelligently designed to provide a robust yet comfortable living space, integrating leisure, sleeping and study zones; the en-suite shower rooms, contemporary kitchens, underfloor heating and video entry system – for added safety and security – can all be monitored and controlled via the individual touch-screens installed in each apartment.

Chard Robinson Developments Director Stephen Chard says: "We have also ensured that the development is cost-effective to run and limited in its environmental impact; energy management is taken seriously at both Chard Robinson Developments and The Newton, with every fixture, fitting, finish and function selected to be durable, low-maintenance and kinder to the planet."

Toby Greenhow, Director of Residential Development Sales for Savills, concludes: "The demand for The Newton not only demonstrates a need for this type of product in Cambridge, but it is also testament to the fact that Chard Robinson Developments can deliver high-quality properties that challenge and push traditional boundaries in order to exceed the ordinary expectations of investors. The rate at which this project has sold proves that Chard Robinson Developments is successfully addressing the market’s demand for a new standard in not only student accommodation, but also residential development and construction as a whole."
